Ray Banks, President of KYDS, once again presented the President’s Highest Achiever Award at the KYDS BBQ and after show party on Sunday 3rd July.

Ray personally chooses the winner of the award, after observing the rehearsal process for each KYDS production and identifying who, in his opinion, has achieved the most throughout the rehearsal process.

Ben Collins, who played Prince Eric, was chosen as the President’s Highest Achiever for the Society’s most recent production of The Little Mermaid. Ray said:

Ben’s singing hit a new high – better than he has ever done before. Also the overall quality of his acting was elevated to new heights. He well deserved the award.”[/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.47″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”]

KYDS would like to congratulate Ellie Russell and Olly Smith who were both chosen to receive Jack Petchey awards in June 2016!

Both Ellie and Olly were chosen by the KYDS youth members through an open nomination process. James Stocker, Chair of Trustees and Jack Petchey Coordinator for KYDS said “The wonderful thing about this process is that it is entirely led by our youth members. There is no input at all from the adult members, this is a way for youth members to recognise and congratulate their peers. Well done Ellie and Olly for being chosen by their fellow members as winners this time round!”.

Some of the comments submitted by youth members about Ellie and Olly are below:

Ellie Russell

“Ellie has always made me feel welcome to KYDS and has always encouraged me to try my best”, “She is very good at her part and very kind to other members of KYDS” “Ellie has shown great determination and commitment in order to perfect every part of her Ursula character”

Olly Smith

“Olly has improved greatly with both his confidence and ability this show, whilst also putting a great amount of effort into everything he does with KYDS!” “He is always trying hard and ready to work, always got a smile and happy to help anyone out when needed!” “Olly has improved greatly with both his confidence and ability this show, whilst also putting a great amount of effort into everything he does with KYDS!”

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text]

We are delighted to announce that our Youth Engagement Officer and Choreographer Dan Carr has been awarded the Jack Petchey Leader Award at KYDS. The Jack Petchey Leader Award is a way of recognising leaders that motivate, inspire and encourage young people.

Dan was chosen to receive the Leader Award for 2016 by a vote of all of our youth members. Some of the comments submitted about Dan are below:

He’s always encouraging everyone and understands all of the members.

He puts a lot of time, effort and patience into choreographing the dances for the shows in his spare time.

He is always really helpful and takes time to go through things with us if we don’t understand what we are doing. He makes things fun.

Congratulations Dan and thank you for all of your hard work at KYDS.

If you think you have what it takes to encourage, inspire and motivate young people, why not consider joining us as a volunteer?

Cheyenne wins President's Award

The President of KYDS, Ray Banks, has once again presented the President’s Highest Achiever Award – after the Society’s recent production of Seussical Junior.

This time, the award went to Cheyenne, who played one of the Wickersham Brothers.

Ray said “the award is presented to the performer who, in my opinion, has achieved most during the rehearsals for the show.”

Picture

Ray Banks, President of KYDS, presents the President’s Highest Achiever Award to Cheyenne.

“People who catch my eye are those who find it difficult to get into their part at the beginning. Sometimes it is very hard to fully understand the nature of the character you have been asked to play, so it takes a lot of hard work and research to get ‘into’ your part.

Cheyenne found it difficult to really portray a monkey who speaks and dances from the beginning. She found mastering the dance routines difficult too.

By the time the show went live, Cheyenne had mastered the part and was one of the best in that particular group. By the time of the first performance, Cheyenne had become my ‘highest achiever’.”

Congratulations on your award Cheyenne and keep up the good work!

Rachel receives her NODA award for Best Supporting Actress from NODA Representative Ann Platten.

We were thrilled when Rachel Shortland won the award for Best Youth Performer at the NODA Eastern Region Gala Awards Ceremony back in April. We were also very pleased when Ann Platten, the NODA Representative for our area, was able to present Rachel with the award when she came to see one of our recent performances of Seussical Junior.

Rachel won the award for her outstanding performance as Queen Avarice in the KYDS 2012 Pantomime – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Well done Rachel!
