This week, KYDS is celebrating Small Charity Week and the excellent work that small charities like ours do.

We are proud of the work that KYDS is doing in Tiptree and the surrounding areas of Essex. Since 2009, we have been working with young people to help them develop a range of transferable skills through singing, acting and dance workshops. Our regular public performances provide audiences with accessible, value-for-money, arts productions and we are delighted that our audiences continue to grow year-on-year.

Since registering as a charity in November 2014, we have renewed our commitment to growing and building our work, as outlined in our 2020 Strategy. Working with members of the community, organisations, companies and charities, we know that we can achieve even more.

We would like to thank our many supporters for their continued support of our charity. We’re looking forward to achieving even more with your help.

For more information about how you can support our charity, please email hello@kyds.org.uk

KYDS is delighted to announce that it has won an award at the recent NODA East Awards Ceremony, held on the 3rd April 2016.

The Society’s production of Cinderella was named ‘Best Pantomime’ for the season in District 8. Director of the Production and Artistic Director of KYDS, Alexandra Berriman collected the award.

This is the second year in a row that KYDS has been nominated for the Best Pantomime award. The Society’s production of Dick Whittington was named Best Youth Production in District 8 last year, after narrowly missing out on the Best Pantomime prize.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

The cast has now been finalised for The Little Mermaid and rehearsals are underway!

KYDS has been delighted to welcome Lee Dillon-Stuart to rehearsals, who has played a pivotal role in blocking scenes and working with the cast at the initial stages of the production.

The cast will now rehearse twice a week, right up until the performances which are due to take place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th June at Thurstable School.

Our volunteers will be working hard behind the scenes to organise costumes, props and scenery, as well as publicising the show, amongst many other tasks.

Make sure that you have put the dates in your diary – we look forward to welcoming you for another brilliantly entertaining, family-friendly production.

KYDS is always on the look out for new youth members and volunteers. If you are interested in joining us, why not get in touch.

Dan wins Leader Award

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text]

We are delighted to announce that our Youth Engagement Officer and Choreographer Dan Carr has been awarded the Jack Petchey Leader Award at KYDS. The Jack Petchey Leader Award is a way of recognising leaders that motivate, inspire and encourage young people.

Dan was chosen to receive the Leader Award for 2016 by a vote of all of our youth members. Some of the comments submitted about Dan are below:

He’s always encouraging everyone and understands all of the members.

He puts a lot of time, effort and patience into choreographing the dances for the shows in his spare time.

He is always really helpful and takes time to go through things with us if we don’t understand what we are doing. He makes things fun.

Congratulations Dan and thank you for all of your hard work at KYDS.

If you think you have what it takes to encourage, inspire and motivate young people, why not consider joining us as a volunteer?

Olly wins President’s award

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ admin_label=”section” _builder_version=”3.0.47″][et_pb_row custom_padding=”14.8125px|0px|14px|0px” admin_label=”row” _builder_version=”3.0.47″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” _builder_version=”3.0.47″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”]

Olly Smith has been awarded the President’s Award for the Highest Achiever by Ray Banks, President of KYDS.

Ray told us why he decided to give Olly the award from the Society’s recent production of Cinderella:

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.0.92″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.0.92″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_testimonial author=”Ray Banks” job_title=”KYDS President” background_layout=”light” _builder_version=”3.0.47″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” custom_margin=”|||” custom_padding=”|||”]

“Every production that KYDS puts on, I always watch for the person who, in my considered opinion, has achieved the highest standard of progress during the rehearsal run.

Sometimes it is quite easy to see who is achieving most. At other times it is a much harder task, with several making a huge effort to achieve high standards. Such was the case during our latest production of Cinderella.

Eventually Olly Smith shone through, with good performances of several different characters. Olly was a worthy winner of the President’s Highest Achiever Award.”

Congratulations Lucy!

We would like to congratulate our first ever Jack Petchey Achievement Award winner, Lucy Greed!

Lucy was nominated by members of the cast of Cinderella to receive the award after she rose to the challenge of playing the title role in the show.

Youth members explained that Lucy had overcome big challenges during rehearsals for the show and had stepped out of her comfort zone. At the same time, Lucy continued to act as a role model and supported younger members of the cast.

Some of the comments submitted by members of the cast are below:

Picture

Lucy Greed with Dannii Carr, Youth Liaison Officer (L) and James Stocker, Trustee and Jack Petchey Coordinator (R)

[I nominate Lucy] “Because she has shown such progress from the beginning of this show and to see her overcome her fear of singing in public needs great recognition. I’m so proud of her.”

“I would like to nominate Lucy mostly because of what she has become over the past few weeks. She’s put so much effort into being Cinderella this term that I think she deserves it. I also nominate her for how much she cares for everyone at Kyds as she’s certainly made me feel welcome!

As part of her Jack Petchey Achievement Award, Lucy was asked to decide how to spend a £200 grant from the Jack Petchey Foundation. Following Lucy’s decision, members will be going bowling in January next year!

Well done Lucy on your fantastic achievement!
