From the 1st – 8th August, five KYDS volunteers were fortunate to attend the NODA 2015 Summer School, affectionately known as ‘The Bubble’ by those who have been lucky enough to attend.

The school takes place at Warwick Conferences in Coventry each year during the first week of August and offers a large selection of different courses each year, focussing on a range of different creative and technical areas in theatre. This year our five volunteers were split between the Lighting, Video Production, Design and Directing Musical Theatre courses.

The school is attended by hundreds of people, all with their own experiences, interests and expertise in amateur (and for many, professional) theatre. This also makes it a fantastic networking opportunity, and many students become friends and stay in touch for years to come. The week is intense, with the objective being for students to leave after the week having developed their confidence and skills as much as possible!

Two of our volunteers attending this year had already attended summer school many times, whilst the remaining three had never attended before. All of them came away however agreeing that the school offered an amazing experience and an invaluable learning opportunity.

Because KYDS is run entirely by volunteers, opportunities like this are so important to ensure that we are providing the best experience possible for our members. From morning warm-ups, to strictly come dancing theme nights, to karaoke, to end of week performances, every opportunity during the week offered new and exciting ideas which our volunteers will bring to KYDS to continue to improve the work that we do.

Our volunteers are already counting down to next year, who knows what they will be learning next!? KYDS would like to thank the NODA Summer School team for a fantastic opportunity and a wonderful week.

If you are interested in joining KYDS as a volunteer, get in touch with us today.
